Triglycerides

When you eat a meal your body either burns these calories immediately or stores them in your blood and fat cells for energy between meals. These stored calories are called triglycerides. When you need this energy, your hormones release the triglycerides to provide you with the vitality you need.

If you are eating more calories than your body is burning, you may experience high levels of triglycerides that can be harmful to your health.

The American Heart Association has guidelines for triglyceride levels, stating that 150 milligrams of triglycerides in the blood is a normal, low risk range, while 200-499 milligrams is high and should be monitored. Your triglyceride count will be highest after a meal.
