Megadosing

Megadosing is a term that refers to taking large quantities of supplemental vitamins, usually over 10 times the recommended daily allowance. Sometimes people megadose when they feel they need a large quantity of a particular vitamin. While the body will store vitamins and minerals until needed, megadosing has the potential to be a dangerous and toxic practice.

It is thought that the most dangerous vitamins to megadose are vitamins A, D, E and K, which are all fat soluble vitamins. Megadosing has been known to cause many health problems from liver toxicity, birth defects and kidney stones, to gastrointestinal disturbances and impaired iron absorption.
