Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a form of medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system for determining and treating health and disease. An osteopathic doctor will usually use Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) by feeling the patient’s body structure to understand the motion of tissues, structural makeup and the flow of fluids. Once understood, the osteopath will reposition, align and move the fluids, tissues, bones and joints, to promote healing within the body. Most osteopaths believe that a person’s medical history (physical traumas and illnesses) are held within the body structure and may be causing present day issues that can be healed by the body itself. Osteopathy treats the entire person, not just the symptoms.

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.’s) are fully licensed physicians and surgeons, just like M.D.’s, though D.O.’s use non-invasive forms of treatment, unlike conventional, allopathic doctors. Doctors of Osteopathy attend Medical School and then attend an additional amount of schooling to study osteopathy. Osteopathy is used to treat a variety of issues, from digestive disorders, neck and back problems and birth trauma, to headaches, asthma, allergies and ear infections.
