Arachidonic Acid

Arachidonic adic (AA) is an essential fatty acid (omega-6 fatty acid) that is found in dairy, eggs and meat, or is sometimes synthesized from linoleic acid. There is no arachidonic acid in plant foods and it is not created by the body itself.

Arachidonic acid is an essential part of one’s diet, but in large quantities it can cause inflammation and be very unhealthy, even toxic. Choosing low fat meat, milk and cheese can help keep arachidonic acid levels low and healthy.

If you are receiving too much AA you may experience poor sleep, grogginess upon awakening, brittle hair, chronic fatigue, rashes, flaking skin and even constipation. Many health professionals believe that it is not the saturated fats and cholesterol in meats and dairy products that cause ill health and disease, but taking in too much arachidonic acid.
