InsulinInsulin is a peptide hormone that helps the cells of our body move glucose through our blood and into our cells so that we can break our food down into organic compounds. In simple terms, it regulates sugar in our blood. We need insulin to use glucose for energy to help our processes of growth, movement and repair. When the glucose enters our blood, the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas produce the insulin to move the glucose into our cells. Both animals and humans produce glucose. Type 1 diabetes is when no insulin is produced. Type 2 diabetes happens when people do not always produce enough insulin or when they have become insulin resistant. Points of Interest
