Red WineRed wine, also known as fermented grape juice, is red in color due to the addition of grape skins, stems and seeds during the fermentation process.Red wine is subject to ongoing health studies and has been linked with many health benefits, such as guarding against heart disease, decreasing the chance of heart attacks, preventing blod clots and increasing good cholesterol (HDL). The health benefits of red wine are contributed to its high levels of antioxidants, polyphenols and flavonoids. While a moderate amount of red wine is thought to be healthy, such as one or two glasses a day, an over consumption of red wine can cause undesirable health effects, such as high cholesterol, obesity and high blood pressure.
