Metabolism

Metabolism is the process of breaking down food in the body to turn it into life force energy. Metabolism is what makes it possible for us to think, move and grow. This happens through a series of complicated chemical reactions in the body.

Once a food is ingested, enzymes break proteins down into either fats or fatty acids, carbohydrates into simple sugars and fats into fatty acids. These compounds enter the blood and cells and are either turned to energy or stored in the body tissues.

Metabolism is either a process of anabolism, which is the body’s building and storing process or catabolism, which is the breaking down of molecules to release energy.
