Slow twitch muscle fiber

Muscle fibers rely on various system and processes in the body for energy. Slow twitch fibers are muscle fibers that contract slowly over a long period of time.

They are often referred to as ‘endurance’ muscles because unlike fast twitch muscles, they are great for aerobic activities such as cycling, swimming and marathon running. Slow twitch fibers use aerobic metabolism to create fuel.
