Mesomorph

Mesomorph is a body type, also known as a somatype. There are three somatypes – endomorph, mesomorph, and ectomorph – characterized by differences in digestive, nervous and muscular tissues.

This ‘body type theory’ was formed by American psychologist William Sheldon in the 1940’s. The mesomorph body type is characterized by a muscular, athletic, hard body with well defined muscles and bones. They usually have excellent posture, gain muscle and fat easily, and have thick skin.

Women with mesomorphic bodies are usually called ‘hourglass shaped’, while mesomorphic men are most commonly referred to as having a ‘rectangular shape’. They usually have wide shoulders and a trim waist.
