Body Mass IndexBody Mass Index, commonly referred to as BMI, is an alternative way to calculate body fat, using weight and height. It is an easy way to calculate weight categories for the purpose of determining potential health risks due to weight.Calculating the BMI of a person doesnt determine if there are health risks; it simply compares the weight and height to that of the general population. There are many BMI calculators on the web that allow you to input your height and weight, while calculating which category your BMI falls into. If your BMI is under 18.5, you are underweight, if it falls between 18.5 and 24.9 you are a normal weight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and anything greater than 30 is obese. When calculating your BMI, remember that if you are a weight trainer or athlete, your BMI may be greater due to muscle mass, not fat. Points of Interest
