Alternative Medicine, Nutrition, and Plantar WartsGenerally, plantar warts are found on foot soles and hand palms, and are the result of a human papilloma virus infection. Plantar warts are spread through contact with the virus in showers, pools, shoes, or through contact with warts on other people or other parts of their own body. The human papilloma virus enters the body through tiny cuts or abrasions. However, the warts may not be visible for weeks or even months. Plantar warts have tiny black specks that bleed and ooze if scraped. Additionally, plantar warts may be covered with thick hardened skin (plantar warts are often pressed inward due to the pressure of walking and standing). Plantar warts may become painful, especially when the hardened skin presses on the wart while walking or standing. Humans generally develop immunity to various strains of human papilloma virus as they age, and some studies suggest that humans may clear the virus on their own if the body is given enough time. However, most individuals with plantar warts opt for medical treatment to remove the pesky warts. The most common treatment for plantar warts is the use of salicylic acid to dissolve the wart; however if this does not work an individual may opt for cryosurgery (freeze the wart off), pulsed laser therapy (burn the wart off) or even surgical removal of the wart. If you believe you can do anything with duct tape, there is even a duct tape plantar wart removal method that involves covering the wart for six days at a time with duct tape, then removing the tape and using pumice stone to debride the area. This method is repeated for six to eight weeks to remove the unwanted plantar wart. There is no treatment method for plantar warts that will absolutely guarantee zero reoccurrence of the plantar wart once it has been removed. In fact, most treatment methods are under seventy five percent successful. A variety of sources indicate that the following micronutrients, supplements, and/or herbs may potentially be helpful for this condition. However, it may be wise to consult with your physician prior to taking nutritional supplements and this is certainly recommended for individuals with a diagnosed condition, particularly those who take prescribed medication.
