CAN INSUFFICIENT SLEEP CAUSE YOU TO GAIN WEIGHT ?

You may not hear about it much, but sleep deprivation is certainly a factor when it comes fighting the battle of the bulge.

Not getting enough restful sleep can not only have the effect of increasing a person's appetite, it can also affect one's metabolism by interfering with the body's ability to burn carbohydrates. In doing so, sleep deprivation can cause carbs that should have been burned for fuel to be stored as fat.

Of course, this is not particularly surprising when one considers the array of other effects that are caused by sleep deprivation. For example, a failure to get sufficient restful deep-sleep has been implicated as a possible cause for the illness known as fibromyalgia syndrome.
