The National Institute of Medicine not set a tolerable upper limit for alpha-lipoic acid, so it may not be possible to currently state how much alpha-lipoic acid is too much . However, as one rule states: too much of anything is not necessarily a good thing. And this applies to supplements. Ideally, a person considering alpha-lipoic acid supplements should do some investigation and perhaps consult with a doctor, dietician, or nutritionist.
