Are there risks associated with using alpha-lipoic acid ?

No serious toxic side effects or risks have been associated with commonly recommended dosages of alpha-lipoic acid, although ALA can cause stomach upset or an allergic skin rash in some people. Alpha-lipoic acid may cause a change in blood sugar levels, though, and for this reason diabetics should consult a physician before taking alpha-lipoic acid supplements.
