What conditions or problems is Pycnogenol used for ?
Pycnogenol may be helpful for the treatment of many disorders commonly associated with free-radical damage, including Alzheimers, cancer, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and senility (pycnogenol is one the few antioxidants that can cross the blood-brain barrier to help protect brain tissue).
Because Pycnogenol is such an effective free-radical neutralizer, it may help repair systems that generally break down with age, thus improving immune resistance, vision, brain function, and skin elasticity. Pycnogenol may also protect cellular DNA from the oxidative damage and cell mutations that can lead to cancer. There is strong evidence that Pycnogenol can improve the circulatory system by strengthening capillaries and veins and Pycnogenol has been used to treat Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), a circulatory disorder characterized by itching skin, swelling, ulcers, edema, and varicose veins, and may help prevent the development of blood clots that can cause heart attack and stroke. Studies indicate that Pycnogenol may also be useful for the prevention or treatment of many other disorders as well, including ADD/ADHD, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, asthma, fibromyalgia, cellulite, diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, lung cancer, premenstrual syndrome, macular degeneration, myocardial ischemia, skin disorders, phlebitis, poor night vision, pelvic pain, prostate disease, cellulite, atherosclerosis, autoimmune disorders, strokes, and high blood pressure. Pycnogenol may help ease allergic or inflammatory symptoms and heal stress-related ulcers by inhibiting the release and synthesis of certain compounds that promote inflammation, such as histamine, serine protease, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes. Topical applications containing Pycnogenol may be used to help treat cellulite and aging skinpycnogenol increases blood and oxygen flow to the skin, which may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin tone.
