How much beta-carotene is too much ?
Although the National Institute of Medicine set 10,000 IU as the tolerable upper limit for healthy men and women, this amount of beta-carotene could be toxic to anyone with liver damage, and has been linked to birth defects if consumed by women during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
As always, the use of supplements, even beta-carotene, should be conducted with caution and ideally under the supervision of a dietician, nutritionist, or physician. Return to: Vitamin Stuff Home page The beta-carotene Overview Betacarotene questions & answers Antioxidant Facts and Notes |
