Can you get enough lutein from food and dietary sources ?
Lutein is found in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, but the average American consumes only between 1 and 2 milligrams of lutein per day, considerably less than the amount needed to experience increased antioxidant and UV protection.
Lutein supplements are available in 6-milligram tablets, topical creams, fortified health drinks, and carotenoid complexes that include beta-carotene, lycopene, zeaxanthin, and other carotenoids.
