What conditions or problems is Copper used for ?

One of copper’s most important functions in the body is the maintenance of the cardiovascular and circulatory systems. Copper may be used to prevent or treat conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, myocardial ischemia, aneurysm, and stroke. Copper supplementation may also help prevent or treat anemia, because it works closely with iron to supply hemoglobin needed to make healthy red blood cells.

The body uses copper to produce the myelin sheaths that coat the nerve endings, and studies indicate that copper may be useful for the prevention or treatment of disorders that have been linked to poor functioning of the central nervous system, such as ADD/ADHD, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy.

Copper is a common treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis—because it helps promote healthy collagen in the body, copper may relieve aching joints and minimize loss in mineral bone density. Copper also helps supply the body with ceruloplasmin and superoxide dismutase, antioxidants that may help reduce arthritis symptoms. Copper has been used to help treat asthma, cellulite, premenstrual syndrome, graying hair, macular degeneration, skin disorders, phlebitis, poor night vision, pelvic pain, prostate disease, and autoimmune disorders.
