Can you get enough vitamin b6 from food and dietary sources ?
Because so many foods are now vitamin-B-fortified, its fairly easy to get enough vitamin b6 from food and dietary sources. And, in fact, serious pyridoxine deficiency is rare. There are some people who may, however, need to add more B6 to their diet. Vegetarians, the elderly, and those who take birth control pills, abuse alcohol, or smoke cigarettes may not absorb enough b6 from dietary sources, and may benefit from b6 supplementation.
Prescription drugs such as diuretics, cortisone, and high blood pressure, tuberculosis, asthma, and arthritis medications, interfere with pyridoxine absorption. Anyone taking these medications should consult a physician about the need to supplement with vitamin b6.
