Can you get enough Vitamin D from food and dietary sources ?
Sunlight rather than diet is actually the best natural source of vitamin D; however, getting the necessary amount of vitamin D from the sun is not easy due to the recent explosion in the number of skin cancer cases and resultant increase in the use of sunscreen. People who live in the northern hemisphere or are infrequently in the sun may need to take a vitamin D supplement. The major dietary source of vitamin D is fortified milk, but it would take one quart of fortified milk to provide the Daily Value. Because there are relatively few foods that contain vitamin D, it is easier for most to meet their dietary needs for this nutrient with vitamin supplements.
